Description
Low-density polyethene (LDPE) is a thermoplastic produced from the monomer ethylene. LDPE material a pioneer in polyethene materials, first manufactured 1933 in the United Kingdom using high pressure with free-radical polymerisation.
The lower density compared to HDPE and branched molecules are among the main distinctive features of LDPE. These features differentiate LDPE from HDPE, even though they share several applications, mainly in packaging.
LDPE is resistant to different kinds of impact, including moisture and chemicals. For example, LDPE is the most common material used in the production of one-time-use plastic shopping bags and packaging for liquid food (juice boxes).
